In the LSU game this week, the No. 3 Tigers’ defense managed to last until the end against No. 25 Mississippi. Fans already knew that the team had great running and defense, but now they’ve seen a quarterback coming to the forefront in the shape of Drew Alleman.

In what has been called a ‘field goal parade’, which was lead by Drew Alleman, the game witnessed kicks one after another, and often-times at crucial moments in the game: like Alleman’s 21-yard field goal in the first quarter, which was a culmination of a 16-play 77-yard drive. Mississippi had their own response to this in the form of a 14-play 57-yard drive ending in Derek DePasquale’s 26-yarder. Leading into halftime, LSU continued to push hard, with Alleman delivering a 42-yard goal with 1:18 left on the clock in the second quarter. This was matched by DePasquale in the third quarter, tying the game at 6 each. Alleman made yet another field goal to give LSU a 9-6 lead with less than two minutes remaining.

LSU was finally able to make a breakthrough with Lee’s touchdown throw that sealed Mississippi’s fate that day. That gave confidence to a small pocket of LSU fans who taunted the rival team by chanting “This is our State,” a marketing campaign by the opposing team.

A new poll shows that Hillary Rodham Clinton has the faith of more than 60 percent of the American public.

The national poll findings suggest that two-thirds of those polled thought that Hillary Clinton would have made a much better president than Barack Obama. She is currently, according to the findings, the most popular political figure in the nation. “The most popular national political figure in America today is one who was rejected by her own party three years ago: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton,” announced Bloomberg News’ John McCormick. 64 percent of those polled say that they have a “favourable” view of the Secretary of State, which contrasts starkly with the 35 percent who said that they country would be in a worse position than it is in now had John McCain been president. Obama’s popularity rating is at an even 50 percent, or slightly over, although an almost equal number say that they don’t approve of what he’s doing now as president.

With the new poll showing Hillary Clinton as the most popular political figure at present, there may be some indications here of which way the votes will swing during the presidential elections next year if not one of the other candidates manages to sway opinion in their direction.

Google Flight has made an official launch of its service for the domestic sector within the U.S., and is already getting some good reviews, although there are some ‘reservations’ attached to the comments.

The launch was a known service offering in the offing ever since they bought ITA Software, but it seems that they’ve kept the service with one focus in mind – simplicity. Designed on looks that resemble their typical search page, with filters on the left margin, the UI is simple and direct. Though only major airports are listed for now, its refreshing to see how the filter choices immediately reflect on the displayed items – kind of like Google Instant. Some reviews show that it still needs a lot of work before it can rival major domain kings like Hipmunk and Kayak, and even Expedia, but there are indications that the future of Google Flight could be a bright one.

The filters on Google Flight are a little cumbersome to navigate because, for example, if you want to search only Delta flights to a particular destination, you have to deselect all the other airlines manually – they’re all selected by default and there’s no ‘clear selections’ option to make it easy. On the whole, however, the launch seems to be successful, and visitors to Google.com/flights will definitely not be going “Oh, this looks just like…” – a testament to Google’s unique efforts in making this service a special offering.

This year, 2011, the Emmys nominees who came in to the Nokia Theatre to rehearse for the Sunday extravaganza were flooded with gift suites from HP’s TouchSmart Gift Lounge, where they were given notebook computers and a sizeable donation each, to the Academy’s not-for-profit foundation.

That was not all: nominees for the 2011 Emmys also took home all sorts of other goodies, like actor David Boreanaz of “Bones”, who came in with his family and ended up taking home designer sunglasses, Nautica watches and lots more. The goodies were raining down as stars like LL Cool J, veteran actress Cloris Leachman and Emmy-winner Loretta Devine graced the occasion to add a truly red-carpet feel to the evening.

The guests were completely pampered as they had the option of either lounging in luxury with the other nominees at the HBO Luxury Lounge or take a quick mini-spa break courtesy L’Oreal. They could sip drinks that were named after HBO shows like “True Blood”, and in the process bag goodies like headphones, handbags and even baby strollers for the fortunate babies. Though the takings were high, the best rewards are yet to come – on Sunday at the Emmys 2011, where only a few of the nominees will get to take home the most coveted goodies of all: the Emmy Awards themselves!

The Apple patent infringement case against Taiwanese Smartphone maker HTC will come under review soon, according to the International Trade Commission.

The trade agency said on its website that it plans to review the decision reached on July 15 regarding infringement on two of Apple’s patents, which could lead to a ban on HTC imports to the U.S. Of the four patents that were said to be copied, only two were found to be infringed upon. Apple, in a filing with the ITC, said that if the two cases were to be reviewed, the other two that were found not to be infringing on their patents should be reviewed as well.

HTC in their turn have also sued Apple for infringing upon their technology patents. An HTC source said that no matter the outcome, they were ready to work out alternation solutions that would circumvent the patents held by Apple. HTC spokesman Adam Emery also said, in an e-mailed statement, that the company was pleased with the trade agency’s decision to review the July 15 ruling, saying that they were “confident in [their] case.” The deadline for the review decision has been set for Dec. 6.

As the Lion King goes 3D this weekend, analysts expect it to cross the 15-million-dollar mark in collections at the box office.

Walt Disney’s 1994 classic, The Lion King, created a generation of fans who grew up with the characters of the animated film. Simba and his animal friends and relatives started appearing on lunchboxes and towels like nobody’s business (or was it Walt Disney’s?!). As the character and his group goes 3D, as many who are saying that this is just a marketing ploy to promote the Diamond Blue Ray DVD release are also saying that this is an old (17 years ago now) classic being merged with modern technology. For those who get to take their kids to see their first Disney movie in 3D in a theater, there’s more of the second sentiment; they get to share their childhood with their kids, while getting to opportunity to ‘grow young’ themselves.

Either way you look at it, as Lion King goes 3D, the 1994 Walt Disney sensation is sure to sweep the takings and displace the other new movie releases this weekend, which includes ‘I don’t know how she does it’, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Greg Kinnear, and the Rowan Atkinson-starrer, ‘Johnny English Reborn’.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner recently address the debt crisis issue with European Finance Ministers, but the plea to stand as one and make a decisive move seems to have fallen on deaf ears as the ministers failed to reach an agreement on the debt crisis and the delayed bailout to a Euro zone nation – Greece.

Geither urged them to reach an agreement and said that delays in coming to grips with the situation could cause further deterioration. However the finance ministers indicated that Greece would not receive the sorely needed funding before early October; the funds were originally to be disbursed at the end of this month.

The unfruitful meeting on the debt crisis, despite Geithner’s urgent call for action, shows how difficult it is for leading nations of the Euro zone to come to an agreement on a single matter like the Greece bailout. This in turn is frustrating investors, who were hoping for a swift end to the Greek situation so the markets could stabilize once again. Several world leaders have pressed for a quick and bold decision on the debt crisis, European finance ministers are apparently unable to deliver one.

Stocks, however, held steady on Friday, the day of the meeting in Poland where Geithner spoke about the debt crisis. This is likely because of word that central banks from around the world have offered easy-terms loans to struggling European banks.

Silver Lake, the private equity investment company, is looking to buy Yahoo! Inc. to try and turn around the business, shedding some weight in the process.

The reports came from two sources close to the discussions, who said that if they do buy Yahoo!, they will likely sell off its Asian assets, and either try to turn the profitability around on the main operations or find another buyer for the web-based company that owns the Number Two search engine, after Google.

Among Yahoo’s Asian assets that Silver Lake may sell off is a 43-percent stake in Alibaba, a trade portal. Several companies are in the run for the bid to buy Yahoo, but Silver Lake is one of the potential winners.

Recently, CEO of Yahoo!, Carol Bartz, was fired by Chairman Roy Bostock for failing to fend off companies like Facebook and Google. The board members met yesterday with investment bank Allen & Co. to look for options for Bartz’s replacement as well as overall choices for the company’s next moves. The bid from Silver Lake to buy Yahoo!, however, is the top news regarding the matter. If the sale does go through, then the web company is likely facing a turbulent time that will decide its future structure and operations.

Greece has strong support to stay in the Euro zone, according to the heads of the French and German governments.

Following a call to Greece’s Prime Minister, George Papandreou, both President Sarkozy and Chancellor Merkel have said that they are “convinced” that Greece will be a part of the Euro area. The statements follow widespread international pressure to ramp up the debt crisis fight in the region. Papandreou has confirmed that Greece is committed to its deficit reduction goals, which are a prerequisite for further international bailout assistance.

Governments in Europe are all set to ratify a commitment to provide a second round of bailout funding to Greece; the agreement took place on July 21 and is likely to be signed off, giving Greece another chance to handle its affairs and bring them into order. The Euro rose following the phone conversation as statements from the governments in Berlin, Athens and Paris corroborate the details of the conversation that took place between the heads of state. However, investors are still edgy about the spread of the debt crisis, which has led to a rise in funding costs from banks and has created turmoil in markets around the world. The Euro was up this morning by 0.1 percent in Berlin.

Michaele Salahi wasn’t kidnapped, she merely ran off with Journey guitarist Neal Schon, according to reports. Salahi and her husband Tarek were in the news two years ago for “gate-crashing” a state dinner at the White House in honor of Indian president Dr. Manmohan Singh. This last incident is being seen as another publicity stunt by many.

Tarek reported on Tuesday that Michaele Salahi was abducted, and was seen on television sobbing for his missing wife. Later, when reports confirmed that she wasn’t kidnapped but ran off with Neal Schon, Journey’s lead guitarist, Tarek was apparently “devastated” by the news that his wife had eloped with another man.

Tarek originally said that Michaele Salahi had called from a number in Oregon and, after he had spoken with her mother, who said that she didn’t know what was up with Michaele, it led him to suppose that she was kidnapped. However, Virginia police later issued a statement saying that she was “with a good friend and was where she wanted to be;” Tarek was still not convinced, believing that she had been forced to say this to the authorities. It was not until later that it came out that it was Neal Schon that she ran off with. Many still feel the whole thing was a stunt because coincidentally, Oasis Vineyards, a winery that filed for bankruptcy in 2008 and was owned by the Salahis, is coming up for auction close on the heels of this incident.
